Now, for some good news in the lives of environmental defenders.

First, we would like to Congratulate Earthlife Africa Associate, Elana Greyling, for taking Silver and Bronze at the 2021 Eco-Logic Awards. We are so happy that Elana’s work with young women in Lephalale and surrounding communities in Limpopo, in addition to her efforts to create widespread awareness about the devastating impacts of coal (mines and power stations) in the region. We also celebrate our friend and comrade in the anti-nuclear movement, Vladimir Slivyak – co-chairman and co-founder of Ecodefense, one of Russia’s leading environmental organisations – on his prestigious Right to Livelihood award (an alternative Nobel Prize)…

Then, we join Earthlife Africa Johannesburg Director Makoma Lekalakala wishing The Green Connection’s Legacy Programme’s first graduating group of young eco-defenders well, as they continue their eco-justice work in their communities.

And finally, in an effort to improve the leadership within the organisation, Earthlife Africa Jhb adds conflict analysis, peace building and learning facilitation to the team skillset. Earthlife’s HR and Finance Lead Sabina Taderera attended and completed the 6-month course. And, in an effort to develop further as a forward-thinking and decisive leader, Earthlife Africa Director Makoma Lekalakala also completed a unique leadership learning program through Design Pathways
