Since early-May 2022, Earthlife Africa Johannesburg and eco-justice activists in Eastern Cape have formed a partnership with Kingfisher FM, in a bid to keep local communities informed and get them involved in the region’s climate action efforts. These community activists are part of a wider initiative Grassroots for Climate Action, which also includes environmental defenders from Gauteng and Limpopo province. The group is working to educate and inform themselves (and their communities) about #ClimateChange and the #JustTransition.
Grassroots for Climate Action is about equipping communities so that they can be involved in the decisions about the just transition, and as a result, be in a better position to share in the socially inclusive local opportunities that come with the move to a more sustainable future. As part of its advocacy work, the group closely follows the Presidential Climate Change Commission (P4C) and have recently made a submission on the Just Transition Framework.
