Join in the March! Earthlife Africa Johannesburg invites you to march to KEEP NUKES OUT OF COP, KEEP NUKES OUT OF SOUTH AFRICA- 18 November 2016.
Time is running out. We only have 1 more month before Earthlife Africa Johannesburg and the Southern African Faith Communities Environment Institute (SAFCEI) head to court to challenge the nuclear procurement deal.
We have a court date set for the 13th and 14th of December 2016 at the Cape Town High Court.
This could very well be one of the most important cases of the decade as we attempt to interrupt the unconstitutional and illegal nuclear procurement process.
One of the reasons why nuclear energy is being promoted in South Africa is because of the popular myth that nuclear energy is “clean” and will help South Africa meet its climate commitments to the UNFCCC. Earthlife argues that nuclear power is a false solution the climate crisis and should not be encouraged anywhere in the world to meet modern energy needs.
Nuclear energy is dangerous, expensive and the dirtiest type of energy available. More nuclear power will destroy the South African economy, the environment and peoples livelihoods.
This year Earthlife’s climate march focuses on: “Keep Nukes out of COP, Keep Nukes out of South Africa”, and coincides with the the climate negotiations (COP 22) happening currently in Morocco.
The march will take place on the 18th of November 2016 from 10:00 am to around 13:00 pm. We will gather and begin at the Westgate Taxi Rank in Johannesburg at 10:00 am and finish at the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein at around 13h00 pm.
Please remember to bring drinking water and sun protection as it may be a very hot day.
We are looking forward to seeing you there. For more information please contact Noma or Tebello at 011 3393662
